We had everything…
We had everything…
Everything…
We had…
She repeated this sentence several times to her mother. Out of sorrow she couldn’t think clearly anymore. She hung on to the same sentence. It wasn’t a problem for herself but her conscience was aching as she was aware that she had upset her mother.
“We have been divorced, Mom.”
For some it was only a sentence, for her mother it was the end of the world. I’m sure she will spend the next days in misery this year, she thought to herself.
She herself, on the other hand felt like a bird which just had been released from his cage. She was free. She was happy… Like someone just opened the door of the cage and the bird flew away and never looked back.
Just one sentence explained her mood. We had everything, what happened?
Their house was just where they liked it. They had chosen a distant part of the city so that they wouldn’t encounter any problems. Oooh, no mother-in-law problems, as well, she had said.
A nice neighborhood… A beautifully decorated house with nice furniture.
Everybody should have a dream.
She had been admiring her kitchen in awe.
Just like I wanted it…
There was a swing on the balcony as well… The view was amazing.
Nothing was missing. How nice, she had said, a wonderful marriage is awaiting us.
Emre’s family even sent them to that renown multi star honeymoon hotel.
Without having to show any effort they had obtained a lot of facilities. Emre’s mother helped them to buy a house and a car. They were very young when they had their first car. Two youngsters of 25-26 years… It hadn’t been long since they graduated from university.
Ece’s mother was as much fond of her daughter as was Emre’s mother of her son.
They never had to struggle for anything. Just, be happy. Here is some money for the cleaning lady; words of a mother fond of her daughter…
As this was what was seen from the outside; inside they nearly fought each and every day. Like they were two people from two different worlds… Emre and Ece.
If there was a book on failed relationships; we would have been writing it, Ece used to say.
They didn’t saw each other, never heard the other.
What was the need of the opposite side? None of them cared.
There were more important things than furniture, actually…
More important than a house…
Than a city to live in…
Than a house or maybe a car…
What are the responsibilities of a woman in marriage? What are the responsibilities of a man?
According to what should a woman choose a spouse? For what should a man choose his spouse?
What would be the need of a woman during her marriage, what does a man need?
What is the answer to these questions, really?
Both mothers got upset at the end,
If only they had taught their children these answers, instead of giving them everything…
POSSESSIONS (FACILITIES) DON’T BRING HAPPINESS…
INGENUITY AND EFFORT (PAYING THE PRICE) IS WHAT WILL BRING US HAPPINESS
